Clutch: Service and Repair

1.

Remove transmission as described under ``Manual Transmission, Replace.''

2.

Remove release bearing arm to shaft attaching bolt, then the release bearing assembly.

3.

Remove release bearing clip, then the bearing from arm.

4.

Check release bearing for excessive play and roughness and replace if necessary.

5.

Lock flywheel with a suitable ring gear holder.

6.

On models equipped with a two-piece pressure plate, separate clutch diaphragm spring from pressure plate, if necessary, by removing stopper
springs.

7.

On all models, loosen pressure plate attaching bolts one turn at a time to prevent warping pressure plate, then remove attaching bolts and pressure
plate.

8.

Remove clutch disc from flywheel.

9.

Reverse procedure to install. Torque 6 mm pressure plate attaching bolts to 7-9 ft. lbs. and 8 mm bolts to 19 ft. lbs. in a criss-cross pattern, two
turns at a time to prevent warpage. On models equipped with a two-piece pressure plate, ensure mark on pressure plate is aligned with flywheel.
On one-piece pressure plate, align flywheel dowel pins with alignment holes in pressure plate. On all models, use suitable clutch disc alignment
tool before tightening pressure plate bolts.
