Headliner/Sunroof Panel Squeak
SYMPTOM
A squeaking noise from the headliner panel and/or the sunroof panel.
NOTE:
If a rattle is also audible, refer to service bulletin 88-003, "Sunroof Panel Rattle."
DIAGNOSIS
Test drive the car; verify where the noise is coming from by pushing against the sunroof panel and the headliner.
^
If the squeak stops when you push against the panel proceed to "Sunroof Panel Squeak," under Corrective Action.
^
If the squeak stops when you push against the headliner, proceed to "Headliner Squeak," under Corrective Action.
^
If the squeak continues regardless of where you push, follow both procedures under Corrective Action.
CORRECTIVE ACTION
Sunroof Panel Squeak
1.
Open the sunroof to the vent position. If the vehicle has a rubber "stop" as shown, apply a small amount of silicone grease to the contact surface of
the stop, then test drive. If the squeak still exists or the vehicle does not have a rubber stop, proceed to step 2.
2.
Remove the sunroof panel as described in the service manual. Place the sunroof panel on a soft towel so the painted surface is not scratched.
3.
Remove the 2 sunroof liner screws. Carefully pop out the 5 sunroof liner retaining pins (using the "door panel release tool," described on page
20-3 in the service manual), then remove the sunroof liner.
NOTE:
^
Once removed, the retaining pins alone will no longer effectively retain the sunroof liner; use double sided tape along with the retaining pins when
reassembling. See step 4.
^
If a retaining pin breaks when you're removing it, be sure to remove any plastic pieces from inside the sunroof frame, or a rattle will result.
