Brake Lamp Switch: Testing and Inspection
This signal informs the ECU when the brake pedal is depressed.
1.
Depress brake pedal and observe brake lights. Brake lights should come On. If lights come On, proceed to next step. If lights do not activate,
check brake switch.
2.
Connect system checker harness between ECU and wire harness connector.
Disconnect ``C'' connector from main wire harness only, not from
ECU.
3.
Position ignition switch to On position, then measure voltage between terminals C10 (+) and A18 (-) of system checker harness without depressing
brake pedal. Voltage should not be present. If voltage is not present, proceed to next step. If voltage is present, replace brake switch.
4.
Depress brake pedal, then measure voltage between terminals C10 (+) and A18 (-) of system checker harness. Battery voltage should be present. If
battery voltage is present, brake switch signal is satisfactory. If battery voltage is not present, proceed to next step.
5.
Turn ignition switch Off, then disconnect connector from brake switch.
6.
Depress brake pedal, then check for continuity between switch terminals. If continuity exists, proceed to next step. If continuity does not exist,
replace brake switch.
7.
Measure voltage between white/green (+) terminal of connector and ground. If battery voltage exists, repair open in green/white wire between
brake switch and ECU (C10). If battery voltage does not exist, repair open in white/green wire between brake switch and stoplight fuse in main
fuse box.
