These conditions are not considered leaks:
^
Water running off the roof drips inside when you open the door or roll down the window.
NOTE:
The later design "A" pillar seal has built-in diverters to reduce this effect but, under certain conditions, some water may still drip inside the car.
^
After you close the door, one or two drops of water fall from the "drip rail" on the "A" pillar seal.
^
Condensation forms on the glass, between the inner and outer sealing surfaces of the "B" pillar seal or roof side seals.
^
Water under high pressure leaks past a seal. The seals cannot remain watertight under pressures that distort their installed shape.
Water entering from around the roof is considered a leak if it occurs with the car in any of these situations:
^
Sitting in the rain
^
Being driven in the rain
^
Being washed with a free-flowing hose
You can stop these leaks if you diagnose the problem and make repairs exactly as described in this bulletin.

WATER LEAK TEST
Follow these steps to determine where the roof is leaking, then go on to Leak Locations and Repairs, record your test results, and choose the correct
repair.
Service Advisor

Have the customer show you where the water is coming in, and note the location(s) on a copy of the leak location sheet (YO390) provided with this
bulletin.

Ask the customer if the leak occurs when the car is
[ ] being driven?
[ ] being washed?
[ ] sitting in the rain?
[ ] sitting level?
[ ] sitting on an incline?
^
Tell the customer that improper roof installation can cause leaks. Show them how to install the roof so the ends of the side seals fit properly against
the "A" pillar and "B" pillar seals.
Technician
^
Hook up a 5/8 inch diameter garden hose to a faucet, turn the water on, and adjust the flow rate to about 5 gallons in 30 seconds. Mark the position of
the faucet handle at that rate, and then turn the faucet off. Do not use any type of pressure or sprayer attachment.

Have an observer sit in the car and watch for water on the sun visor, A" pillar, door panel, and inside of the glass, and mark on the location sheet
where it's coming in.

Turn the faucet on (up to the mark you made), and hold the hose so water flows freely over the roof.
^
Continue testing by holding the free-flowing hose at various rear locations.
NOTE
Water flowing down between the rear edge of the glass and the inner lip of the "B" pillar seal is normal. The water should flow out the bottom of the
seal without entering the passenger compartment. This is also true of the roof side seal between the edge of the glass and the top of the gutter.

Repeat leak tests 1 thru 11 on the other side of the car. Refer to this illustration for correct part names.
