Airbag Assembly Disposal and Deployment

NOTE:  Before scrapping any airbag(s) (including those in a whole car to be scrapped), the airbag(s) must be deployed. Before you deploy the airbag(s),
check to see if the car is still within the warranty period.  If it is, contact the Honda District Service Manager for approval and special instructions.

NOTE:  Only after an airbag has been deployed (as the result of vehicle collision, for example), can it be scrapped.

NOTE:  If the airbag appears intact (not deployed) it should be treated with extreme caution.

To deploy and dispose of the airbag assembly, follow this procedure:

DEPLOYING THE AIRBAG: IN-CAR

NOTE:  If an SRS car is to be entirely scrapped, its airbag should be deployed while still in the car. The airbag should not be considered a salvageable
part and should never be installed in another car.

WARNING:  Confirm that the airbag assembly is securely mounted; otherwise, severe personal injury could result from deployment.

1. Disconnect both the negative cable and positive cable from the battery.
2. Confirm that the special tool is functioning properly by referring to DEPLOYMENT TOOL CHECK PROCEDURE in this article or the

instructions on the deployment tools' box label.

3. Remove the access panel, then disconnect the connector between the airbag and the cable reel.
