Brake Bleeding: Service and Repair
System Bleeding
Anti-Lock Brake System
1. Fill reservoir to MAX level line with fresh brake fluid, then connect a suitable rubber tube to bleeder and place other end in a suitable container.
2. Loosen bleeder, then start engine to activate pump motor.
3. Tighten bleeder when fluid starts to flow out.
4. Stop engine after pump motor starts. If ABS indicator light comes on and pump motor stops, restart engine and repeat steps 2 through 4.
Conventional Brake System
Do not mix different brands of brake fluid, as they may not be compatible. Use only DOT 3 or 4 brake fluid. Ensure brake fluid level in
reservoir is at MAX (upper) level line.
1. Have an assistant slowly pump brake pedal several times, then hold steady pressure.
2. Loosen brake bleed screw to allow air to escape from system, then tighten bleed screw securely.

3. Repeat procedure for each wheel in sequence, Fig. 2, until air bubbles no longer appear in fluid. Master cylinder reservoir must be full when
starting bleeding procedure and checked after bleeding each wheel.
4. Check brake performance by road testing vehicle.
