Follow the screen prompts on the Tester. (During the procedure, you must enter how many keys you want the PCM to accept.)

When you are finished, turn the ignition switch off, and disconnect the Tester.

Verify that the PCM is correctly programmed by trying each key in the ignition switch while you watch the immobilizer indicator. The light should
come on when you turn the ignition switch ON (II) and then go off within a few seconds.

Perform steps 1 thru 16 of REPAIR PROCEDURE B.

REPAIR PROCEDURE B

1.

Raise the vehicle.

2.

Drain the transmission, and refill it with Genuine Honda Premium Formula ATF.

3.

With the front wheels off the ground, start the engine.

4.

Press on the brake pedal, and shift the selector lever to the D4 position.

5.

Release the brake pedal, and slowly rev the engine to 2,500 rpm.

6.

After the transmission shifts into 2nd gear, hold engine speed at 2,500 rpm for 30 seconds.

7.

Release the throttle slowly, and hold engine speed at 1,000 rpm for 5 seconds.

8.

Slowly rev the engine back up to 2,500 rpm.

9.

Carefully vary engine speed between 2,000 and 2,500 rpm until the transmission shifts into fourth gear.

NOTE: If the transmission will not upshift past second gear when performing steps 5 through 9, shut the engine off and restart the procedure. It
takes a very steady foot on the accelerator to get the transmission to upshift without a load. If the transmission still won't upshift, test-drive the
vehicle to mix the old and new transmission fluid.

10.

Release the accelerator pedal, and apply the brake pedal.

11.

Repeat steps 4 thru 10 two more times, making sure the transmission shifts into all four gears.

12.

Repeat steps 2 thru 11 two more times.

13.

Drain the transmission, and install the drain plug with a new washer.

14.

Refill the transmission with Genuine Honda Premium Formula ATF.

*15. Test-drive the vehicle. If the MIL comes on again with the same DTCs stored, replace the torque converter. Refer to pages 14-118 thru 14-122 in

the 1998 Odyssey Service Manual.

16.

Clear the DTCs with the PGM Tester.*
