EGR Duty Solenoid: Description and Operation
EGR System Component Locations (California)
PURPOSE
Allows the Engine Control Module (ECM) to meter the amount of vacuum applied to the Exhaust Gas Recirculation (EGR) valve, thereby
controlling recirculation volume.
EGR Duty And VSV (Cut) Solenoids
OPERATION
The EGR Duty Solenoid is a non-vented, solenoid operated, vacuum switch. The ECM regulates the EGR valve vacuum signal by alternately
energizing and de-energizing the solenoid many times each second. When the solenoid is energized the vent opens to allow air into the vacuum
circuit, reducing the vacuum signal to the EGR valve. When the solenoid is de-energized, the EGR valve receives full vacuum from the intake
system.
