Throttle Position Switch: Description and Operation

Wide Open Throttle Switch (WOT)

PURPOSE

Provides idle and full throttle position signals to the Engine Control Module (ECM).

OPERATION

The switch is supplied with battery voltage at the center terminal. When the throttle is at idle, current flows through the idle contacts to the ECM.
When the throttle is at partial throttle, no current flows through the switch. When the throttle is at Wide Open Throttle (WOT), current flows
through the WOT contacts to the ECM.

These inputs are entered into various ECM calculations such as ignition timing, injector pulse width and air injection control.
