Oxygen Sensor: Service and Repair

Removal

Preparation: Disconnect Battery Ground Cable.

CAUTION:  The Heated Oxygen Sensor (HO2S) uses a permanently attached pigtail and connector. This pigtail should not be removed from the
HO2S. Damage or removal of the pigtail or connector could affect proper operation of the HO2S.

Take care when handling the HO2S. The in-line electrical connector and louver end must be kept free of grease, dirt, or other contaminants. Also,
avoid using cleaning solvents of any type. Do not drop or roughly handle the HO2S.

1. Disconnect HO2S Wiring Connector.
2. Remove HO2S.

CAUTION:  The HO2S may be difficult to remove when Engine temperature is below 48° (120°). Excessive force may damage threads in
Exhaust Pipe.

Installation

To install, follow the removal steps in the reverse order. 

2. Install HO2S. Apply anti-seize compound or equivalent to threads of oxygen sensor if necessary. Tighten the Oxygen Sensor to the specified

torque.

NOTE:  A special anti-seize compound is used on the HO2S threads. The compound consists of a liquid graphite which will burn away, but the
glass beads will remain, making the Sensor easier to remove. 

New or serviced Sensors will already have the compound applied to the threads. If a Sensor is removed from an Engine and if for any reason it is
to be reinstalled, the threads must have antiseize compound applied before reinstallation.

Torque: 55 Nm (40 lb.ft)

1. Connect HO2S Wiring Connector.
