Temperature Gauge: Description and Operation
Engine coolant Temperature (ECT) Gauge
The engine coolant temperature (ECT) gauge consists of two intersecting coils wound around a permanent magnet rotor. Applying voltage to the coils
through fuse 7 generates a magnetic field causing the rotor to rotate and the gauge needle to move. The magnetic field is controlled by the sender. As the
resistance in the sender varies, current through the gauge coils changes. The resulting fluctuation in the magnetic field then moves the gauge needle
accordingly.
