Evaporator Core: Service and Repair

1. On models equipped with airbag system, refer to Technician Safety Information for system disarming and arming procedures.
2. Disconnect battery ground cable, then discharge A/C system.
3. Remove glove compartment, then center console assembly.
4. Remove passenger side dash panel speaker cover, then the air duct assembly.
5. Disconnect electrical connectors from right side of evaporator case.
6. Disconnect drain hose from case.
7. Working from inside engine compartment, disconnect and cap refrigerant lines from cowl.
8. Remove evaporator case retaining nuts, then the evaporator case from vehicle.
9. Remove lower case to upper case retaining bolts, then the case retaining clip.

10. Remove case linings, then the evaporator core from lower case.
11. Carefully remove sensor bulb from core, then remove expansion valve.
12. Reverse procedure to install, noting the following:

a. Torque A/C outlet line to evaporator core retaining nut to 24 ft. lbs.
b. Torque A/C inlet line to evaporator core retaining nut to 15 ft. lbs.
c. Use new O-rings, lightly lubricated with refrigeration oil, when installing expansion valve and connecting lines.
d. Ensure case seals and seals around evaporator core tubes are properly positioned.
e. Evacuate and recharge A/C system, then check for leaks.

13. On models equipped with airbag system, refer to Technician Safety Information for system disarming and arming procedures.
