Safety Recall: Passport Front Seat Belt Buckles 
(Supersedes 96-048, dated October 25, 1996)

BACKGROUND

The locking mechanism in certain front seat belt buckle assemblies may contain an incorrectly manufactured part. This could prevent the seat belt buckle
from latching properly. If the buckle fails to latch properly, the seat belt may not restrain a front seat occupant during a sudden stop or collision.

CUSTOMER NOTIFICATION

Owners of affected vehicles will be contacted by mail and asked to take the vehicle to a dealership for repair. The text of the customer letter is at the end
of this service bulletin.

PARTS INFORMATION

Seat belt buckle assembly, LX and EX:

Driver's side - P/N 8-97004-494-0, H/C 4395919
Passenger's side - P/N 8-97004-491-0, H/C 4395901

Seat belt buckle assembly, DX:

Driver's side - P/N 8-97004-499-0, H/C 4395935

PARTS ORDERING

The initial parts supply will be allocated: one LX/EX driver's side seat belt buckle assembly and one LX/EX passenger's side assembly per dealership;
and one DX assembly to each dealership that reported selling a DX. No open ordering of any assemblies will be allowed.

To get additional assemblies:

File the warranty claim immediately after installing an assembly on a vehicle.

Call the Customer Information Services Office at (800) 999-1009. Supply them with the VIN of the vehicle that you repaired, and the part number of
the assembly installed.

They will verify the warranty claim, and make sure a replacement assembly is shipped to your dealership.
