Check the amount of free play in the steering wheel by turning it slightly in both directions until you feel resistance.

If the free play is more than 10 mm total from side-to-side at the outside of the steering wheel rim, adjust the free play at the steering gearbox.

Adjusting Free Play at the Steering Gearbox

Align the front wheels straight ahead, then turn off the engine. For the 2.6 L 4-cylinder engine, proceed to step 3.

For the 3.2 L V-6 engine, continue with step 2.

For 3.2 L V-6 Engine Only. Remove the two mounting bolts for the radiator mounting bracket. Carefully slide the radiator toward the passenger's
side of the vehicle to allow for access to the steering gearbox.
