Product Update Campaign: Passport Charging System

BACKGROUND

The battery may become discharged after approximately 1-1/2 hours of idling or driving at very low speeds with the majority of electrical items in use
(fog lights, rear window defogger, headlights, air conditioning, etc.).

Under those severe conditions, the alternator is not able to put out enough current at low engine speeds to keep up with the electrical load.

CUSTOMER NOTIFICATION

All owners of affected vehicles will be mailed a notification of this product update. An example of the customer letter is at the end of this bulletin.

CORRECTIVE ACTION

Replace the alternator with a higher capacity unit, and add a timer circuit to the rear window defogger.
