Isolation Solenoid Closing Isolation Valve

Isolation Valve Operation
When the brake pedal switch closes (brake pedal applied), the EBCM checks the speed sensor signal. If the EBCM detects that rear wheel speed is
dropping too quickly, indicating possible rear wheel lock-up, the EBCM energizes the isolation solenoid to close the isolation valve. This
separates the rearwheel cylinders from the master cylinder so that rear brake pressure cannot increase.

Fluid Pressure Escaping Through Dump Valve Into Accumulator

ABS Operation
If the rear wheel speed continues to drop too quickly, the EBCM will pulse the dump solenoid, allowing fluid pressure to escape through the dump
valve into the accumulator. This decreases the pressure at the rear wheel cylinders. The EBCM keeps track of the number of dump solenoid pulses.

2WD Vehicles and 4WD Vehicles Operating in 2WD - If the dump solenoid is pulsed 16 times in a single ABS event, the EBCM recognizes a
system fault. It will disable the RWAL system, store a diagnostic trouble code and turn on the indicator lamps.
4WD Vehicles Operating in 4WD - If the vehicle is in 4WD, the EBCM will stop pulsing the dump solenoid after 16 consecutive pulses, but
during 4WD operation this is not considered a system fault. The EBCM will not shut the system down, store a diagnostic trouble code or turn on
the lamps.

Fluid In Accumulator Returning To Master Cylinder Reservoir

ISOLATION VALVE

The reset switch signals the EBCM when there is too much difference in pressure between the fluid entering the valve assembly and the fluid
leaving the valve assembly. The EBCM uses this signal to determine when to open the isolation valve (by de-energizing the isolation solenoid).
When the brake pedal is released, the EBCM returns the isolation valve to its normally-open position. The EBCM also holds the dump valve open
for a short time to allow any fluid in the accumulator to return to the master cylinder reservoir.

NOTE:  The anti-lock valve assembly is NOT interchangeable between rear disc and rear drum brake models. There are differences between the
two assemblies.
