DIAGNOSIS
Inspect vehicles at PDI and whenever they return for service. Look for dried coolant at the upper and lower radiator tank seams. If you find any, perform
the REPAIR PROCEDURE.

REPAIR PROCEDURE

1.

Write down the radio station presets.

2.

On vehicles with A/T; disconnect the oil cooler hoses from the bottom of the radiator, and measure how much ATF comes out of the cooler. You
will need to refill the transmission with the same amount of ATF after you install the new radiator.

3.

Remove the old radiator. Refer to pages 6B1A-7 and 6B1A-8 of the 1996 Passport Service Manual.

4.

Install a new radiator. Refer to page 6B1A-9 of the 1996 Passport Service Manual, and see PARTS INFORMATION. New radiators come with
only a filler cap and a drain plug, so remove all other external parts from the old radiator, and install them on the new one.

NOTE: 

If you spill any coolant on painted surfaces, rinse it off immediately with water.

5.

On vehicles with A/T

Start the engine, and raise the vehicle.

Remove the A/T fill plug, and discard its gasket.

Add the same amount of ATF you removed in step 2.

Reinstall the ATF fill plug with a new gasket. Torque the plug to 38 N.m (28 lb-ft).

Lower the vehicle, and turn the engine off.

6.

Enter the radio station presets, and set the clock.
