8. Ball-nut and valve housing assembly.
a. It is strongly advisable to always keep the ball screw and valve housing assembly in a horizontal position and avoid holding it vertically, or the
rack piston will fall off onto the end of the worm, causing the rack piston to slip out of the worm shaft and balls to fall out.
b. Be careful not to drop the O-ring fitted to oil passage into the valve housing.
c. Tighten the valve housing retaining bolts to the specified torque. Torque 46 Nm (34 ft. lbs.).
9. Sector shaft.
a. Tape the sector shaft serrations to protect the seal ring from damage.
b. Align the center tooth of ball nut with that of the sector shaft.
10. Needle bearing.
11. O-ring.
12. Top cover assembly. Torque 46 Nm (34 ft. lbs.).
13. Lock nut. Adjust the backlash between the worm gear and the ball nut.
a. With the worm gear rotating, set it to the straight ahead position.
b. Set the worm shaft backlash to below 10 kgs. cm. with the sector shaft adjusting screw.
c. Measure the worm shaft backlash with the worm gear turned 450° both to the right and to the left. The worm gear backlash in these positions
should be 0.4 - 0.6 Nm (2 - 4 kgs. cm.) lower than in the straight ahead position.
d. Lock the sector shaft adjusting screw with the lock nut. Lock nut torque 42 Nm (31 ft. lbs.).
