Shift Solenoid: Service and Repair
Adapter Case Valve Body

PREPARATION:  

-

Disconnect negative (-) battery cable. 

-

Drain fluid.

REMOVE: 

1. Adapter case oil pan Remove twelve 10 mm screws, adapter case oil pan, and gasket.

NOTE:  Oil pan still contains transmission fluid. Place a large drain container under the oil pan. Drain the fluid carefully.

2. Wiring harness. Disconnect wiring harness from force motor solenoid, converter clutch solenoid and 5 pin connector of adapter case. Pull only on

connectors, not on wiring harness.

3. Solenoid:

a. Remove 11 mm bolt and disconnect earth harness from converter clutch solenoid.
b. Remove converter clutch solenoid with two O-rings.
c. Remove 11 mm bolt, retainer, and force motor solenoid.

INSTALL:  

NOTE:  To install, follow the removal steps in the reverse order, noting the following points; 

1. Solenoid: 

a. Install force motor solenoid, retainer, and 11 mm bolt to adapter case valve body. Torque 10 Nm (87 inch lbs.).
b. Install converter clutch solenoid with two O-rings.
c. Install 6.5 mm connector of earth harness under the head of the converter clutch solenoid bolt.
d. Tighten 11 mm bolt to adapter case valve body.

Torque 10 Nm (87 inch lbs.).

2. Wiring harness. Connect wiring harness assembly to solenoids and 5 pin connector of adapter case.
3. Adapter case oil pan:

a. Install adapter case oil pan, new gasket, and twelve 10 mm screws.

Torque 11 Nm (96 inch lbs.).

b. Fill transmission through overfill screw hole oil pan, using ATF DEXRON-III. Connect negative (-) battery cable.
