Bell Housing: Service and Repair

PREPARATION:  

-

Remove engine hood.

-

Disconnect negative (-) battery cable.

REMOVE: 

1. Transmission assembly. Remove transmission assembly with transfer case from the vehicle. 
2. Torque converter. Remove torque converter from converter housing.

3. Oil seal ring:

a. Remove three screws.
b. Remove oil seal ring from converter housing.

INSTALL:  

NOTE:  To install, follow the removal steps in the reverse order, noting the following points; 

3. Oil seal ring:

a. Apply clean ATF to the new oil seal ring lip. 
b. Install oil seal ring to converter housing.

Torque 3 Nm (26 inch lbs.).

2. Torque converter. Install torque converter to converter housing. 
1. Transmission assembly:

a. Install transmission assembly with transfer case to the vehicle. 
b. Connect negative (-) battery cable. 
c. Install engine hood. 
d. Adjust shift lock cable. See: Shift Linkage/Shift Cable
e. Inspect transmission fluid level. See: Fluid - A/T
