With the shift lever in Drive, measure the clearance between the shift gate pin and the top and bottom of the shift gate as you push and release the
shift lever button; it should be less than 3.5 mm (1/8 in.).

If the clearance is 3.5 mm (1/8 in.) or less, go to step 4.

If the clearance is more than 3.5 mm (1/8 in.), go to step 3.

Remove the shift lever handle, then clean out anything that may be causing the shift lever to stick (old grease, spilled food or drink, etc). After you
clean the lever, reinstall the handle, and go to step 4.
