DIAGNOSIS

1.

With the engine running, turn on the A/C.

2.

Set the parking brake and press the brake pedal.

3.

On A/C models only, put the transmission in drive.

4.

Slowly increase the engine speed from idle to 1,500 RPM, and go back to idle several times.

If you hear a moaning noise, turn off the A/C. If the noise goes away, go to REPAIR PROCEDURE.

If you do not hear a moaning noise or the moaning noise does not go away when the A/C is turned off, continue with normal troubleshooting
procedures.

REPAIR PROCEDURE

NOTE: This procedure is done in the vehicle; you do not need to discharge the A/C system or remove the compressor.

Remove the intake air duct, the MAF (mass air flow) sensor, and the air filter upper housing as an assembly.
