Maintenance Schedule Addition
Camshaft Timing Belt replacement should be performed during the 37,500 mile scheduled maintenance. The timing belt need not be replaced again
during any scheduled maintenance (unless it is accidentally damaged or contaminated during another repair) because of improvements in belt
technology.

CUSTOMER NOTIFICATION

All owners of 1983 Preludes will be notified of this Maintenance Schedule addition by mail. The letter will be sent on April 10,1987. American Honda
will pay for timing belt replacement if the vehicle's mileage is near or beyond 37,500 miles. 1983 Prelude owners who have already paid for timing belt
replacement will be reimbursed by American Honda. Previously replaced timing belts must be inspected as described below.

INSPECTION/REPLACEMENT

1.

Remove the upper cover of the timing belt.

2.

Check the color of the lettering on the timing belt.

Red lettering indicates that the latest belt is installed. Reinstall the upper cover and proceed to step 3.

White lettering indicates that the belt should be replaced. Replace the timing belt with a belt which has red lettering, as shown in the Service
Manual, page 6-19. Proceed to step 3.

Center punch the firewall over the last V.I.N. digit to indicate that the latest timing belt is installed.

To enhance vehicle durability at extended mileage, we have added Camshaft Timing Belt replacement to the 1983 Prelude Maintenance Schedule. The
replacement should be performed by an authorized Honda automobile dealer during the 37,500 mile scheduled maintenance and will be completed free
of charge. If the mileage on your 1983 Prelude is near or beyond 37,500 miles, please make an appointment with an authorized Honda automobile dealer
