Low Fuel Lamp/Indicator: Testing and Inspection
1.
Park vehicle on level ground, than drain fuel tank.
2.
Add less than 2.6 gallons of fuel and turn ignition switch to On position.
3.
If warning light does not illuminate within 3 minutes, remove fuel tank, disconnect electrical connector from fuel gauge sending unit, connect
positive terminal of voltmeter to green/red terminal of 3 pin connector, ground negative terminal of voltmeter to body ground and measure voltage.
4.
If there is voltage, replace fuel gauge sending unit.
5.
If there is no voltage, check for break in yellow/white wire or faulty connection at terminals.
6.
If warning light did illuminate, ensure it goes out when electrical connector is disconnected from fuel gauge sending unit.
7.
If warning light stays lit, check for short in wiring harness.
8.
If warning light goes out, replace fuel gauge sending unit.
