(Supersedes 87-027, dated September 14,1990)
PROBLEM
The center section of the hood is warped or has a depression in it.
CORRECTIVE ACTION
1.
Check that the hood closes and latches properly. If necessary, adjust the hood and/or latch as described in section 20 of the service manual.
2.
Locate the depressed or warped area on the hood's underside. Using a hacksaw blade and jab saw, cut through the adhesive bonding the hood skin
to the hood stiffener in the affected area.
NOTE:
Some paint damage is unavoidable. Cut carefully to cause as little damage as possible.
3.
Close the hood and check for warpage. If the hood is still warped, go to step 4. If the hood is now OK, go to step 5.
4.
This step should be done only by someone experienced in body repair. Using the proper-sized suction cup-type dent puller, pull out the depressed
area in the hood skin.
NOTE:
Be careful not to mark the paint.
5.
Increase the gap between the hood skin and stiffener by inserting small wedges. Fill the gap with a small amount of 3M Hood Flutter Repair Kit
material (3M P/N 08105). Use sections of material 1/2 in. or less in length.
NOTE:
Using too much Hood Flutter material can cause a depression to form in the hood skin.
