Evaporator Core: Service and Repair
1.
Disconnect battery ground cable and discharge A/C system.
2.
Disconnect receiver and suction lines from evaporator, plug lines and open fittings, then remove firewall grommets from evaporator tubes.
3.
Remove both lower dash panel attaching screws, then the lower dash panel assemblies.
4.
Disconnect vacuum line and electrical connector from blower motor assembly.
5.
Remove sealing band located between blower housing and evaporator.
6.
Remove blower housing attaching bolts, then the housing assembly.
7.
Remove evaporator core attaching bolts, then the evaporator assembly.
8.
Carefully separate evaporator housing, then pull thermostat capillary tube from evaporator core, noting position for installation.
9.
Separate housings and remove evaporator cover.
10.
Remove evaporator and expansion valve, and separate expansion valve from evaporator as needed.
11.
Reverse procedure to install, noting the following:
a. Use new O-rings when installing expansion valve and connecting refrigerant lines.
b. Install expansion valve and secure valve sensor against suction line with tape.
c. Insert thermostat capillary in position noted during removal, ensuring tube makes good contact with core fins.
