Clockspring Assembly / Spiral Cable: Service and Repair
Store a removed airbag assembly with the pad surface up. If the air bag is stored face down, accidental deployment could propel the unit with
enough force to cause serious injury.
1.
Disconnect battery negative and positive terminals.
2.
Ensure front wheels are aligned straight forward.
3.
Remove lower cover and drivers knee bolster. Disconnect cable reel harness from SRS main harness, then remove connector holder.
4.
Remove steering wheel maintenance lid, then disconnect cable reel harness and airbag assembly connector. Connect short connector to airbag(s)
assembly.
5.
Remove airbag from steering wheel.
6.
Disconnect horn and cruise control switch connectors, then remove airbag connector from its clips.
7.
Remove steering wheel nut and steering wheel.
8.
Remove column covers, then cable reel.
9.
Reverse procedure to install noting the following:
