1996 MY ACCENT GT DLC WIRE REPAIR FOR COMMUNICATION WITH GST
DESCRIPTION:
Generic Scan Tools (GST) may not be able to communicate when used to diagnose some 1996 MY Accent GT vehicles' engine control systems.
The Data Link Connector (DLC) on the vehicle has two ground pins (pins # 4 and # 5).
The GST may not be able to communicate if Pin # 5 does not have a good ground (open circuit).
NOTE:
The Hi-Scan Pro is able to communicate with the ECM using just one of the two ground pins.
Some Generic Scan Tools may require BOTH ground pins in order to communicate. Thus, some GSTs may not communicate with some 1996 MY
Accent GT vehicles.
REPAIR PROCEDURE:
1.
Using a DVOM, confirm that pin # 5 does not have a good ground and that pin # 4 does have a good ground.
2.
Cut the wire from pin # 5 and splice and solder to the wire from pin # 4.
