DESCRIPTION:
The purpose of this bulletin is to provide part number information, part number interchangeability information and a service procedure for refining the
ride quality of Accents produced prior to May 19, 1997.
To refine ride quality, "off-set" rear struts with conical springs have been adopted on Accents produced beginning on May 19, 1997.
PARTS INFORMATION:
The new parts are not interchangeable individually with the previous parts because of the rate and shape differences among the parts. When replacing
suspension parts, install the same part number that you have removed unless you are installing new parts to refine vehicle ride quality. In this case,
replace both the left hand and the right hand parts with the new parts using the service procedure outlined in this TSB.
Note:
Do not intermix old and new parts as this may affect handling and ride quality.
SERVICE PROCEDURE:
For 4-door Accent:
Replace all parts listed in the PARTS INFORMATION table using the procedure outlined in the appropriate Shop Manual.
For 3-door Accent or GT:
Before replacing all parts listed in the PARTS INFORMATION table, shorten the rear seat back latch striker upper mounting bolt by 2 - 3 mm (0.08 -
0.12 in.) on both sides. This procedure is recommended to avoid possible interference between the rear seat striker upper mounting bolt and the coil
spring of the rear suspension system.
