DISC BRAKE NOISE
Some disc brake noise, such as an occasional high-pitched squeak or squeal may be normal and may occur even after the dealer service department has
determined that the brake system is working properly and that there is no malfunction. Properly performing brake pad materials may characteristically
emit an "occasional" squeak or squeal. This is a condition that should be explained to an owner to reassure him or her that the brakes are functioning
properly and that the noise they noticed does not indicate that a problem exists. Attempts to eliminate the noise by applying a dressing to brake pads,
washing off brake pad dust or machining brake rotors are usually unsuccessful.
A noise that is heard during braking, or a noise other than an occasional squeak or squeal, must be inspected and corrected immediately.
IMPORTANT
1.
Dealers are advised that brake noise should not be arbitrarily considered normal, even if it is an occasional squeak or squeal, until it is positively
verified that the brake system is functioning properly.
2.
A constant high-pitched squeal usually indicates that the brake pads are worn to the point where replacement is required.
