Clockspring Assembly / Spiral Cable: Service and Repair

1. Remove air bag module mounting nut.
2. When disconnecting clockspring connector from air bag module, press air bag connector lock toward outer side to spread it open carefully without

excessive force.

3. Remove air bag module and store in a clean dry place with pad cover facing up.
4. Remove steering wheel using tool No. 09561-11002, or equivalent. Do not use a hammer on steering wheel as collapsible column mechanism

may be damaged.

5. Remove clockspring.
6. Reverse procedure to install, noting the following:

a. Align mating mark and "Neutral" position indicator of clockspring, then turn steering wheel to straight ahead position.

b. Install clockspring to column switch as shown in Fig. 1. If clockspring's mating mark is not properly aligned, steering wheel may not

be able to completely rotate during a turn, or flat cable within clockspring may be severed, obstructing normal operation of air bag
system.
