REAR BRAKE DRUM/HUB INSTALLATION PROCEDURE

It is important to follow the proper procedure for installing the rear brake drum/hub onto the spindle to prevent wheel bearing damage.
Installation Procedure

1.

Install the rear brake drum/hub, outer bearing, washer, and hub retaining nut. (Run the nut on finger tight.)

2.

Rotate the drum/hub by hand and tighten the hub nut to 15 ft.lbs. with a torque wrench.

Note

It is necessary to rotate the drum/hub as shown in Figure 1 while tightening the hub nut to properly seat the outer rear wheel bearing.

Improper seating of the bearing may cause bearing stress and damage to the outer race and rollers. This could result in noise and premature bearing wear.
