Steering Gear: Service and Repair
Manual Steering Gear

1.

Raise and support vehicle.

2.

Remove both wheel/tire assemblies.

3.

Disconnect joint coupling from steering gear.

4.

Remove tie rod to steering knuckle retaining nut, then separate tie rod from knuckle.

5.

Remove steering gear to crossmember retaining nuts, then the steering gear assembly.

6.

Reverse procedure to install. Torque steering gear to crossmember retaining nuts to 22-29 ft. lbs., joint coupling bolt to 11-14 ft. lbs. and tie rod to
steering knuckle retaining nut to 11-25 ft. lbs.
