2001 SANTA FE RECREATIONAL TOWING GUIDELINES

DESCRIPTION:
This bulletin provides recreational towing information for the Santa Fe. This information is provided for clarification purposes and to assist with towing
inquiries from consumers for the following Santa Fe models:

Full time Four Wheel Drive (4WD) Santa Fe with Automatic Transaxle

^

Front Wheel Drive (2WD) Santa Fe with Automatic Transaxle 

^

Front Wheel Drive (2WD) Santa Fe with Manual Transaxle

"Recreational" towing of Santa Fe refers to circumstances when a Santa Fe is towed behind a motorhome, truck or other recreational vehicle with all four
(4) wheels in contact with the road surface.

NOTE: 

Confirm that the "recreational" tow vehicle has the capacity to tow a Santa Fe vehicle.

REQUIREMENTS:

DO NOT TOW any Santa Fe vehicle (4WD or 2WD) equipped with an automatic transaxle with all four wheels on the ground behind another
vehicle. Towing a Santa Fe vehicle equipped with an automatic transaxle in this manner may seriously damage the vehicle's transaxle.

NOTE: 

A Santa Fe with 2WD and automatic transaxle can be towed by a recreational vehicle if the front wheels are on a tow dolly.

Front wheel drive (2WD) Santa Fe vehicles equipped with a manual transaxle may be towed with all four wheels on the ground behind another
vehicle, such as a Recreational Vehicle (RV), only if the following six conditions are met:

1.

Transaxle oil is at the recommended level.

2.

Transaxle is in correct working order.

3.

The parking brake is released.

4.

The gearshift is in NEUTRAL.

5.

The steering wheel is UNLOCKED with the key in the ignition and in the "ACC" position.

NOTE: 

When you leave the key in the "ACC" position, make sure all accessories are turned off to prevent battery drain.

6.

The vehicle is towed from the front with all four wheels on the ground.

WARNING: 

When towing has been completed, be sure to turn the key off, remove it from the ignition and set the parking brake. Do not leave the keys in the
ignition with the vehicle unattended.
