Oil Pump: Service and Repair
Removal
1.
Remove timing belt as outlined under TIMING BELT.
2.
Remove oil pan and screen.
3.
Remove attaching bolts, then the front case assembly.
4.
Remove oil pump cover.
5.
Remove inner and outer gears from case, noting location of mating marks to aid in installation.
6.
Remove plug, spring and relief valve from case.

1.
Check gear teeth and timing case for excessive wear or damage.
2.
Check clearance between outer gear circumference and timing case as shown in Fig. 26. Clearance should be .0039-.0079 inch.
3.
Check clearance between outer gear tooth and crescent as shown in Fig. 27. Clearance should be .0087-.0134 inch.
4.
Check clearance between inner gear tooth and crescent as shown in Fig. 28. Clearance should be .0083-.0126 inch.
5.
Check endplay of inner and outer gears. Endplay should be .0016-.0039 inch.
6.
If damage or values other than those specified are noted, replace parts as necessary.
