Number: 95-60-003
Date: MARCH, 1995
Model: SCOUPE
Subject:
Water Leaks Into The Trunk At The Rear Wheelhouse To Inner Quarter Seam.
CONDITION:
Water leaking into the trunk. The water may be muddy, with the damp area near one of the two wheel wells.
CAUSE:
There may be incomplete sealing in the rear wheel house (wheel well) at the inner quarter body seam.
DIAGNOSIS:
Follow the evaluation methods outlined in TSB 95-60-002 (Water Leak Detection) to determine if the leak originates in the rear wheelhouse area.
1)
Remove the rear wheel guard from inside the wheel well.
2)
Remove the luggage side trim from inside the luggage compartment.
3)
Spray the luggage compartment side of the weld seams with a mixture of 1 part dishwashing liquid to 3 parts water. Blow compressed air at the
weld seams from below the vehicle, inside of the wheel well. Have an assistant watch inside the trunk for the soap solution to bubble, which
indicates a leak. Re-test to identify the exact area of the leak.
REPAIR:
1)
Remove the undercoating from the leak area and four inches on each side.
2)
Use 3M Brushable Seam Sealer, (3M # 08655 or # 08656) or equivalent, to seal the leak area and four inches on each side of the leak.
3)
After the seam sealer has dried, coat the repair area with 3M rubberized undercoating (3M # 08883), or equivalent.
4)
Re-install the removed components.
