Ball Joint: Service and Repair

1. Raise and support front of vehicle, then remove wheel and tire assembly.

2. Using tie rod end puller tool No. 09568-31000, or equivalent, disconnect lower ball joint from knuckle, Fig. 5.
3. Remove nut or nut and bolt, then disconnect stabilizer bar from lower control arm.
4. Remove lower control arm bracket, then remove mounting shaft and separate.
5. Remove lower control arm.
6. Remove lower ball joint to arm attaching bolts, then the lower ball joint.
7. Move ball joint stud forward and backward approximately 5 times, then using a torque wrench, measure rotation starting torque and rotating

torque of ball joint. Starting torque should be 26-86.8 inch lbs. Rotating torque should be 26-52.1 inch lbs. If not with specifications, replace ball
joint.

8. Lower control arm bushings can be replaced using arbor tool Nos. 09545-21400, ring tool No. 09545-24000 and base tool No. 09545-24100, or

equivalents. Prior to pressing in replacement bushings, apply a soapy solution to outer surface of bushing, inner surface of lower control arm and
inner surface of installation tool. After bushing has been pressed in and centered, wipe soapy solution from bushing.
