PLASTIC COMPONENT IDENTIFICATION FOR PROPER PAINTING PROCEDURES
Description
As part of an ongoing effort to improve the recyclability of vehicle plastic parts, Hyundai has begun marking plastic parts for identification purposes.
These markings can be used to identify the type of plastic as well as the fillers (if any) that are used.
This information can be helpful when repainting a plastic part. Included are the plastics painting procedure examples from PPG and BASF. Use the
correct procedure for the brand of paint being supplied. Your local paint jobber should be able to provide the correct procedure.
The use of these symbols will be integrated into the design of new parts as they are developed. The number of parts marked will increase as new vehicles
are released.
Code Identification
NOTE:
Other symbols will be used as new plastics are developed. Most paint suppliers can identify unknown symbols. If trouble is encountered with an
unknown symbol, contact your Hyundai Field Technical Representative, who can obtain and provide the plastic "FAMILY" name, as well as make
sure the new symbol is included in future revisions of this TSB.
