SERVICE REMINDER FOR 1999 SONATA VEHICLES EQUIPPED WITH SIDE AIR BAGS
DESCRIPTION:
Deployment of the side air bags is controlled by satellite sensors mounted near the B-Pillars on both sides of the 1999 Sonata.
If either satellite sensor is impacted with excessive force when the ignition is in the "on" position, the sensor may activate, resulting in deployment of the
side air bag.
WARNING:
To prevent deployment of the side air bag during vehicle service, use the following precautions:
1.
Be sure to turn off the ignition switch before servicing the side air bag system.
2.
Do not impact either satellite sensor when the ignition is in the "on" position.
3.
Use caution not to inadvertently impact the satellite sensor during vehicle servicing.
4.
As a precaution, if either satellite sensor will be subject to impacts during vehicle servicing, disconnect the negative (-) battery cable from the
battery terminal and wait at least 30 seconds before starting the work.

The satellite sensor mounting locations on the 1999 Sonata are shown in the illustration.
