Valve Seat: Testing and Inspection

Check the valve seat for evidence of overheating and improper contact with the valve face.

Recondition or replace the seat if necessary.

Before reconditioning the seat, check the valve guide for wear.

If the valve guide is worn, replace it, then recondition the seat.

The valve seat contact width should be within specifications and centered on the valve face.

Standard value: 

Intake, 0.9-1.3 mm (0.035-0.050 inch).
Exhaust, 0.9-1.3 mm (0.035-0.051 inch).

Measure the installed height of the spring between the spring seat and the retainer with the valve spring seat, spring retainer and retainer lock installed.
The amount of sinkage can be judged from the measured value. which is the installed height of spring A for intake, exhaust.

Standard value, 40.4 mm(1.591 inch).
Wear Limit, 41.4 mm(1.630 inch).
