DESCRIPTION:
Some 1997 and 1998 V6 Sonata vehicles may exhibit a brief driveability condition during the initial startup and drive when the engine is cold. This
condition only occurs when the temperature and humidity are high and can be identified by the following symptoms:
1.
1997 or 1998 Model Year Sonata.
2.
3.0L V6 Engine.
3.
Vehicle exhibit reduced power and/or hesitate under the following conditions:

The ambient air temperature is high (above approximately 80°F).
^
The ambient humidity is high (above approximately 50%).
^
The condition lasts for approximately 30 seconds to one minute after start-up. The Engine is cold with the coolant temperature close to the
ambient air temperature.
4.
Vehicle has no other driveability related conditions.
5.
Vehicle runs as expected after approximately 30 seconds to one minute.
REPAIR PROCEDURE:
If a vehicle experiences ALL of the above conditions, replace the Engine Control Module (ECM) with the correct new part number.
NOTE:
Prior to replacing the ECM insure no DTCs exist and that all service data information is within specifications. Also check intake air hoses and
gaskets for leaks.
