Attach the scan tool to the data link connector (DLC) and select the year, model, and then the "Transaxle" menu.
A.
Select "Codes" and check for diagnostic codes (DTC). If DTCs are found, repair the condition.
B.
Select "Data" and "Idle Switch". Check that the idle switch reads as shown. If not, adjust or replace the idle switch. (For idle switch
adjustment procedures, see TSB # 97-40-029)

Engine idling - Idle switch reads "On" or "Closed"

Engine rpm increased to 50-100 rpm above idle - Idle switch reads "Off" or "Open"

Adjust the kickdown servo to the specification shown in the 1997 Sonata Shop Manual, Page ATa-39 or 1998 Sonata Shop Manual, Page
ATa-136.

If Steps 1-3 show all components to be within specification, no DTCs are found and the vehicle is produced after July 1, 1997, replace the
transaxle control module (TCM) with the part number shown. (Refer to TSB # 96-40-003-1 for instructions for replacing the TCM.)
