DESCRIPTION:
The automatic transaxle shift interlock and ignition key interlock mechanisms are operated by cables on the following vehicles: 1999-2001 Sonata, 2001
Elantra, 2001 Santa Fe and 2001 XG300. The cables must be correctly adjusted for proper operation of the shift interlock and key interlock.
Follow the adjustment procedures below. If the vehicle exhibits either of the following conditions:
1.
The key cannot be removed from the key cylinder after shifting into "Park".
2.
The shift lever cannot be shifted from "Park" with the ignition key on and the brake pedal depressed.
PROCEDURE:
1.
Access the base of the shifter by removing the necessary trim.
NOTE:

KEY LOCK CABLE ADJUSTMENT:
1.
Place the shift lever in the "Park" position.
2.
Loosen the 12 mm nut securing the key lock cable mounting bracket. Check the cable mounting bracket to make sure it moves freely.
3.
Push the cable housing lightly forward with your finger (as shown) to remove slack in the cable.
