AUTOMATIC TRANSAXLE SHIFT LEVER KNOB
REPLACEMENT
This TSB supersedes TSB # 01-40-016 to add additional Hyundai model vehicles.
DESCRIPTION:
If it is necessary to remove the gear shift lever knob, follow the repair procedure shown below. For additional instructions describing how to remove the
shift lever, refer to the appropriate shop manual.
NOTE:
For XG vehicles produced prior to 4/11/01, the shift knob and button may be damaged during removal; consequently, it is necessary to order
replacements for these parts prior to repairs.
REPAIR PROCEDURE:
1.
Insert a small screwdriver 1/4" deep in the location shown (slightly rearward of the center of the button). Visually confirm the screwdriver contacts
the tab on the push button.
2.
Carefully pry the push button out of the knob.
NOTE:
Use caution not to damage the button or the shift lever knob.
3.
Remove the spring and cap.
4.
Use a 12 mm deep socket to remove the nut, then remove the knob.
5.
Install the knob. Reinstall the nut and tighten to 3-4 lb.ft. (40-60 kg.cm).
6.
Reinstall the cap and spring, then push the shift button into the knob.
7.
Confirm the correct operation of the shift lever
