IMPORTANT:
Whenever the ETS Control Module, PCM or Throttle Position Sensor is replaced or disconnected, the INITIALIZATION process must be carried
out. If not, the ENGINE WILL NOT START!
A description of the initialization process is in this TSB.
When repair work is performed on the ETS, "INITIALIZATION" of the system is sometimes required.
INITIALIZATION:
INITIALIZATION is the process by which the ETS Control Module "learns" and memorizes the DC Motor's Rotor position relative to the throttle plate
position. It involves taking hundreds of data points of the electric motor's rotor position relative to the throttle plate position from fully closed to fully
open and back to fully closed. This learning is critical for the electric motor's quick and precise control of the throttle valve.
PERFORMING THE INITIALIZATION:
1.
Turn the ignition key to the ON position (for less than one second) and quickly turn the ignition key back to the OFF position.
2.
For the next 20 seconds, the ETS Control Module/PCM performs the INITIALIZATION process.
DO NOT turn the key back on until the INITIALIZATION is complete (20 seconds).
