1. Remove oil pump rear cover Fig. 36.
2. Clean and inspect pump components for damage.
3. Using a feeler gauge and referring to ENGINE REBUILDING SPECIFICATIONS, inspect the following components for wear:

a. Body to outer gear.
b. Inner gear to crescent.
c. Outer gear to crescent.
d. Housing to inner gear.
e. Housing to outer gear.

4. If any clearance exceeds specifications replace either gear set or entire oil pump as necessary.
5. Install pump cover and tighten fasteners to specifications.
