SERVICE INFORMATION
Oil's ability to keep moisture and particulates in suspension (and not settle out as sludge) may deteriorate over time, especially with frequent short trips
and/or stop-and-go driving in cool moist climates such as are generally experienced in the Northwestern U.S., particularly in parts of Oregon and
Washington. This type of deterioration in the oil is even more likely if the oil is put in during warm summer conditions and left in the engine through the
cold winter months.
Engine oil for Infiniti G20 vehicles that operate in the above conditions should have sufficient ability to hold moisture and particulates in suspension.
Under these conditions, NNA recommends using oil with a TBN of at least 10. TBN (Total Base Number, ASTM standard D2896) is a measure of
alkalinity, or resistance to acids, which are formed by sulfur in fuel. The alkaline component that TBN measures includes detergents that keep
particulates in suspension.
NNA recommends the following oil, or equivalent, for these conditions:
^
Castrol GTX Multigrade 10w - 30, Product Number 0090A (This is a special formulation with a high TBN, different from commonly available
Castro GTX)
^
Engine oils with an API grade CF or CG (for diesel engine service.)
For all other engines and operating conditions, follow the recommendations in the Service Manual (API grade SG/SH, Energy Conserving I & II, or API
grade SJ, Energy Conserving.)
