SERVICE INFORMATION
If a knocking noise is heard from the front suspension when driving in wet weather over bumps, it may be caused by the front strut insulator. A new
upper spring insulator is available to resolve this incident and has been installed during production on all vehicles built after February 2, 1996.
SERVICE PROCEDURE
1.
Verify the clunking noise during wet driving conditions over bumps. If wet weather is not occurring during the test drive, spray water into the
upper portion of the wheel housing as shown in Figure 1 and retest. Be sure the upper strut mounting area (insulator) is wet.
2.
If a clunking noise is heard from either side front strut, replace both the left and right side upper spring insulators with a new part, P/N
54034-2J015. The new insulator does not have the three locator tabs which were on the former insulator shown in Figure 2.
