Removal and Installation
TIMING CHAIN
Removal and Installation
REMOVAL
1. Release the fuel pressure. Refer to See: Tune-up and Engine Performance Checks/Fuel Pressure/Testing and Inspection.
2. Disconnect the battery cable from the negative terminal.
3. Remove engine cover with power tool. Refer to See: Access Cover/Service and Repair/Exploded View.
4. Remove radiator reservoir tank. Refer to See: Cooling System/Radiator/Service and Repair/Removal and Replacement/Exploded View.
5. Remove air duct and air cleaner case assembly (RH and LH). Refer to See: Tune-up and Engine Performance Checks/Air Cleaner Housing/Service
and Repair/Exploded View.
6. Remove engine undercover with power tool.
7. Drain engine coolant from radiator. Refer to See: Cooling System/Coolant/Service and Repair/Draining.
CAUTION:
-
Perform this step when the engine is cold.
-
Never spill engine coolant on drive belt.
8. Remove radiator hose (upper and lower). Refer to See: Cooling System/Radiator/Service and Repair/Removal and Replacement/Exploded View.
9. Drain engine oil. Refer to See: Engine Lubrication/Engine Oil/Service and Repair/Draining.
CAUTION:
Perform this step when the engine is cold.
10. Remove radiator cooling fan assembly. Refer to See: Cooling System/Radiator/Service and Repair/Removal and Replacement/Exploded View.
11. Remove drive belt. Refer to See: Drive Belts, Mounts, Brackets and Accessories/Drive Belt/Service and Repair/Removal and
Replacement/Removal and Installation.
12. Separate engine harnesses by removing their brackets from front timing chain case.
13. Remove intake manifold collector. Refer to See: Intake Manifold/Service and Repair/Intake Manifold Collector/Exploded View.
14. Remove fuel sub tube mounting bolt. Refer to See: Powertrain Management/Fuel Delivery and Air Induction/Fuel Rail/Service and
Repair/Exploded View.
15. Remove oil level gauge and oil level gauge guide.
16. Remove A/C compressor from bracket with piping connected, and temporarily secure it aside. Refer to See: Heating and Air
Conditioning/Compressor HVAC/Service and Repair/Exploded View.
17. Remove power steering oil pump from bracket with piping connected, and temporarily secure it aside. Refer to
18. Remove power steering oil pump bracket.
19. Remove idler pulley, drive belt auto-tensioner and bracket. Refer to See: Drive Belts, Mounts, Brackets and Accessories/Idler Pulley/Service and
Repair/Exploded View.
20. Remove alternator and alternator bracket.

21. Remove water pipe. Refer to See: Cooling System/Thermostat/Service and Repair/Removal and Replacement/Exploded View.
