SERVICE INFORMATION
If the A/C evaporator is leaking on a 1993 - 96 J30, it may be due to a galvanic reaction caused by copper particles settling on the aluminum core
material. These copper particles originate from the blower motor.
It the A/C evaporator is diagnosed and confirmed to have a refrigerant leak, replace the blower motor and fan assembly in addition to the A/C
evaporator. A countermeasure blower motor is available to prevent future incidents of this type. Perform the following procedure to ensure a proper
repair.
SERVICE PROCEDURE
1.
Perform an A/C leak test to determine the location of the leak.
A.
If the leak is confirmed at a location other than the evaporator, repair the leaking component as necessary.
B.
If the leak is confirmed at the evaporator, proceed to Step 2.
2.
Discharge the A/C system by recovering the refrigerant using approved recovery equipment.
3.
Remove the lower instrument cover and glove box assembly from the passenger side as shown in Figure 1.
